In Canterbury Cathedral we find the tomb of Edward, the Black Prince, son of King Edward III and father of Richard II. Replicas of his achievements hang above the tomb; the genuine articles are in a case nearby. As a member of the Cathedral choir and a scholar at King's School Marlowe had been steeped in the visual imagery
of England's history since childhood.
