Mercery Lane, "Marlowe's uncle (by marriage) lived in a house on the right-hand side of the lane, where he plied his trade as a draper or mercer [a dealer in linens or fine cloth], the name Mercery Lane being derived from the business carried on there. These houses are among the oldest remaining in Canterbury."
